Top 4 Diaper Bags in 2024
Now let’s talk diaper bags…
When I was pregnant, I searched and searched for the perfect diaper bag. How much stuff does a baby actually need on the go? The answer to that question is WHO THE HECK KNOWS! If I don’t pack an extra set of clothes, he’ll have a poop blowout, if I do pack extra clothes and he doesn’t have a poop emergency, then I’m stuck carrying around more crap in this bag. Will he eat when we’re out for an hour? Maybe, maybe not- so I pack food just in case. Will we be out long enough for him to have to change into his pajamas? Possibly? So I better play it safe and bring those PJs.
When you are new to this mom thing- there is no “right” answer, you are just learning what works for you and your family as you go. My son is currently 8 months and we went through about 6 diaper bags already- so I’ve chosen the TOP 4 that work for our family.
Bigger Diaper Bags
1. I added Diaper Bag Backpack to my registry because it had a bunch of storage inside, it’s a backpack AND it has a little built-in changing station. For 5 months, I used this diaper bag for everything. It held a ton of stuff and I loved it! (I linked a diaper bag similar because the one I purchased is no longer available).
In this diaper bag, I was able to put:
- 2 outfits+socks
- Pajamas
- Blanket
- Formula Dispenser
- Water
- Sippy Cup
- 2 Bottles
- Skip Hop Changing Pad (I put diapers and wipes in the compartment so that they don't take up space in the diaper bag)
- 2 Bibs
- 2 Burp Cloths
- Toys
- Jar Food
- Snacks
- Spoon
- Extra Zip Lock Bag (for soiled clothes)
I used this diaper bag up until the 6 month mark. The built-in changing table was super helpful when I was going to someone's house who did not any kid-friendly sleeping/changing areas, when I am going to be taking a long trip, be out for around 8 hours of the day, go to a different state to visit a friend, etc. I put him in here to change him when we went to visit family and for him to take a little nappy at 3 weeks old.
2. Tote Bag
2. After I put the backpack diaper bag away in storage, my aunt bought me this personalized Tote Bag and I have been using this bag for long trips (just as I did with the backpack). I love this bag because it fits my Skip Hop Changing Pad perfectly! When I am driving upstate, I do not need to take the whole diaper bag out with me, I just take the Skip Hop changing pad out of my tote and we are good to go! This tote and the backpack are interchangeable, I just like to use the tote more because it is less bulky and can hold more things. The PLUS side to this diaper bag is that it is just a tote! Not a diaper bag at all, so when we are totally finished using big bags, I can use this bag for myself as luggage for trips to AC, or even as a carry on.
Now For Smaller Diaper Bags…
3. After about 4 months, I realized I didn’t want to look like I was backpacking across Europe every time I left the house with the baby, so I was on the hunt for something smaller.
I found this Small Diaper Caddy on Amazon and decided to buy it. It came and low and behold- too small for ALL our baby needs. BUT- this diaper bag was not a loss!! I use this diaper bag when I know I will not be taking the baby out of the car seat or stroller. I use it when I pick my nephew up from school, when I go on short walks, when I go to the supermarket, etc. It hooks on right to my stroller so I keep my wallet in there too! Easy, Easy, Easy.
In this diaper bag I fit:
- Blanket
- 1 Bottle (with 6- 8 oz of formula already made in there)
- Water Bottle
- 1 Bib
- 1 Burp Cloth
- Toys
- Jar Food
- Spoon
- Extra Zip Lock Bag (for soiled clothes)
- WeeWee Pad (to put on changing stations)
- Diaper/Wipe Holder
4. My search continued and I stumbled upon Small Crossbody Diaper Bag. It came the next day and I realized OK THIS IS IT. This diaper bag is perfect for the 6 month mark and beyond because it carries everything I need in there. I use this diaper bag when I am going to my in-laws, mommy and me class, the park, out to eat and places I will only be for about 4-5 hours. It fits right under my stroller or on the stroller handle and is extremely convenient. To be honest, I don’t even take my purse anymore because I fit my wallet and phone in this diaper bag too! Double Win.
In this diaper bag I fit:
- 1 outfit+socks
- Blanket
- Formula Dispenser
- Water
- Sippy Cup
- 1 Bottle (with 6- 8 oz of formula already made in there)
- Water Bottle
- 1 Bib
- 1 Burp Cloth
- Toys
- Jar Food
- Spoon
- Extra Zip Lock Bag (for soiled clothes)
- WeeWee Pad (to put on changing stations)
- Diaper/Wipe Holder
I use this diaper bag every single day and I have to say, I absolutely love it!! This is how I rate the diaper bags in order of how I use them now that we are at the 8 month mark:
(1- often, 4- hardly ever)
2. Tote Bag
WHERE DO YOU PUT ALL THESE DIAPER BAGS IN A ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT???
I store these diaper bags behind my closet door! I used a door hanger that my husband put behind the door and it makes it so easy for hanging items. Thanks, babe.
Which diaper bag works best for you and your little one?
It's been a long time since I've had a baby but this list is great!! Especially for first time parents!! I'd probably get a backpack style diaper bag. It would make it easier to carry.
